Today’s Reality Can Be Tomorrow’s Absurdity

How many legs does a dog have if the tail is regarded by some people as a leg? A dog has four legs. A dog’s tail isn’t a leg just because some people believe it is such. Identifying a dog’s tail as a leg does not make it one. Beliefs are just ideas, not truths.

What if a man assumes he is a woman after 35 years of being a man? Would he indeed be one, or would he just be a woman as a fantasy in his mind? Is there still a difference between ideas and reality, or now in 2022, have the two become one of the same thing?

In many situations, what we perceive to be true does not always match what actually is. Our perception of reality and what reality is can be two radically different things.

In many situations, what we perceive to be true does not always match what actually is. Our perception of reality and what reality is can be two radically different things. Reality will always be a reality, and the truth will always be truth, regardless of how many believe it.

It’s fascinating how most human beings can wrap their minds around abstract ideas and then turn them into new versions of reality. Thinking something does not make it true. Wanting something does not make it magically manifest itself. We forge our experience of life around the assumptions we have about what is factual.

I had a recent encounter with a young guy who believed he was a lousy human being and doomed to fail in all of his future intimate relationships. This attitude spawned in response to the actions of a woman who wasn’t willing to jump into bed with him after only two dates. One undesired experience resulted in this young man making an assumption that all future relationships would end up the same way, which created a terrible future forecast for his life.

People are often more receptive to ideas that confirm their current opinions or worldviews, and for them, reality does not include acknowledging what is real. For some people, reality is simply the present viewpoint they have on the world and how things might exist. Many people’s current lifestyle preferences colour their beliefs about what is true in reality. We create our thoughts, emotions, and actions due to our assumptions about what ideas are factual.

Aside from correcting the overgeneralised hypotheses that people make of themselves, there’s little we can do to influence those people who are more attached to the extraordinary ideas that run through their minds – than offer sensible, honest and constructive feedback.

“Between the memories we have of the past and our present day reality, there are usually countless awkward discrepancies to be found.” — Eileen Chang

Some people waste hours of their lives responding to the extreme assumptions that they make about themselves rather than listening to the gentle voice of wisdom that can only be heard after putting aside our self-defeating judgments and irrational impressions.

According to some people, material reality is what we assume to be true without investigating or researching alternative viewpoints or different frames of reference. A large portion of what people think is true is based on what they inadvertently understand and receive as doctrine.

We regularly form our opinions of others based on how we perceive them and what we believe their plans are for us. Our perception of the world is heavily influenced by what observe, experience sensationally, and listen to. The depth of our thinking and the maturity of our reasoning is primarily determined by how accurately we perceive reality.

Our thoughts pick and avoid ideas based on how developed our thinking is and how ready we are to prioritize pursuing truth over mindlessly following our random definitions, perceptions, and theories. The accuracy with which we perceive reality is primarily responsible for the depth of our thinking and the maturity of our logic.

Our perceptions, and the accuracy of them, determine what we understand, the condition of our thinking, and how we conduct ourselves in public. Our minds will constantly be responding to reality in actuality, or, to the random thoughts that sporadically enter our minds.

Our perception of ourselves and our abilities determine what we regard as accurate about our innate capacity to evolve, grow, and solve perplexing problems. Our confidence level is one of the main influencing factors that affect our actions and behaviours.

Our internal perception tells us how our bodies are feeling, where our legs are if we are relaxing or standing up if we are feeling depressed, hungry, exhausted, and so on. The external senses provide information about the world outside our physical bodies.

Realistic thoughts hold that reality is solely a matter of mental perceptions, while sceptical thoughts test how far our minds can comprehend anything outside of them.

Atoms and space are the only things that exist; the rest is opinion and perception. Most people are educated to the point of knowing that it’s a perception that shapes and characterises their behaviour. When people refuse to be reasonable in their judgments, they close their minds off to new possibilities and discerning what is true in actuality.

It is, therefore, wiser to base our assessments of our lives on facts rather than feelings, assumptions, or opinions. Truth serves as a sustainable cornerstone for building our lives upon, and without it, many people live lives chock-full of turmoil, anxiety, and concern.

To form a perception, we must have a conscious understanding of the world around us. Our perception of reality is formed when we combine all our experiences and preferences and then decide what to believe.

What we believe to be true is what we call reality. Our beliefs are what we take to be true. Our beliefs are based on our perceptions. What we perceive depends on what we look for. How we think determines what we look for. The way we think determines what we perceive. How we perceive determines what we believe. Our beliefs determine our interpretation of reality. That which we accept as accurate is our reality.

It’s highly possible that whatever you perceive as reality today, whatever you touch and believe in and that appears real to you today, is going to turn out to be – like the reality of yesterday – an untruth, or possibly even an absurdity to you tomorrow.

Today’s reality can be tomorrow’s absurdity, so learning how to understand the mind and how it processes your everyday experiences is a crucial part of the personal development process.
