A Rigid Mindset Breeds the Illusion of Incapability

We all know that person who is convinced they can’t do anything right and therefore never tries. Their mindset is rigid, and any deviation from their plan means a certain failure.

This mindset breeds the illusion of incapability and leaves people stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and inaction. Sometimes, when faced with an opportunity to make some improvements, people list every reason they have not to change. It is easy to dismiss these individuals as inflexible or pessimistic, but this is not always the case.

Some people make claims such as, “I can’t change”, or “I couldn’t change”, but in reality, the truth is that if the majority of people knew how to live their lives in more fruitfully effective ways, they would already be doing so.

The tendency to think in extremes is common among those who see the world in absolutes. Although we all tend to think in dichotomies from time to time, creating a habit of dichotomous thinking can have harmful effects on people’s health, relationships, and careers.

The main problem most people face is not their lack of ability to learn or make positive life changes but their rigidity and inflexibility of mind. A rigid mindset breeds the illusion of incapability. But it doesn’t have to be this way. With a little bit of flexibility, we can open ourselves up to new possibilities and grow into the person we want to be.

But how? It starts by becoming aware of our rigid thinking patterns and being more open to different points of view. Once we start loosening up our thinking, it becomes easier to take on new challenges and accomplish great things.

Personal excellence is a mindset. It is a standard that some people choose to live by. A standard of excellence demand excellent attitudes, habits and deliverables from the self. Those who struggle with fear, self-sabotage, procrastination, self-doubt, etc. think only like amateurs who haven’t yet decided what excellence is. Amateurs let adversity defeat them. Excellence thinks differently. Excellence shows up and keeps pushing forward, no matter what.

The world’s most successful people don’t have fewer problems than everyone else; they just adopt a proactive, innovative and solution-orientated mindset when dealing with them. Mind is never people’s main problem. Mindset is!
