Guard Yourself Against Stagnancy and Decay

It’s easier to get proactive individuals interested in being more proactive in their goals than it is to pique the attention of over-thinkers and emotionally volatile people about much beyond themselves.

Movement is required for any productive action or development. There will be no advancement or growth if toil and labour are not present. This is a reality that cannot be challenged. We won’t be able to make progress until we’ve decided to move ahead in life.

There are many ways to move forward and make progess in life, but only one way to stand still and stagnate.

Those who don’t strive to move beyond their status quo may end up stagnating and decaying as a result. If you don’t want to get left behind, you must defend yourself against deterioration by continuing to progress and grow. You avoid stagnation and irrelevance by growing and evolving.

To attempt to motivate a stagnant individual can be compared to pushing a boulder up a hill – this is just an unnecessary amount of effort and hard work. There’s a principle that relates to life progression, however, which is; that not all change is growth, and not all movement is progress.

Man maintains his balance, poise, and sense of dignity only as he continues moving forward. You cannot direct a motionless vessel in the same way that you cannot lead or influence another human being who is not actively already in motion. Even those who trip up and fall flat on their face are still moving.

There is an important distinction between movement and progress because, ironically, for some people, some movements hinder progression. It is unlikely for growth to occur without change, and change is unlikely to occur without a decision to change first being made. A person who refuses to change his or her thinking will find it difficult to take any significant steps forward.

The scope of your influence will expand as you continue to advance your life. This can lead to exponential growth if the right circumstances exist. As your level of consciousness grows, so does your ability to create more positive results across the different areas of your life – this is like entering a never-ending loop.

Most people live their lives driven by either a desire to feel better (and be happy) or to develop maturity, responsibility, and become wise. The second of these motives is the most conducive to personal growth.

Maturity and decision-making are correlated. When we were children, we acted like children, thought like children, spoke and reasoned like children. However, as we become adults, we must shed childish ways, irresponsible attitudes, and juvenile conduct. Maturity and character are defined by the ability to postpone short-lived gratification- which is what costs many people meaningful long-term progression.

Wise adults who have pursued maturity in character make decisions based on their values and long-term priorities. These values are like guiding principles that allow people to make wise decisions independent of their emotions or life’s ups and downs. Despite the fact that emotions are central to the human experience, it’s maturity that allows people to manage themselves.

Unless we focus on mature activities that will challenge and strengthen us as adults, our natural default setting is frequently self-destructive. As a result, many people unintentionally undermine their best efforts without knowing why or comprehending why they are doing it.

Progress happens whether you’re going forward or backwards. If you are to have any chance of making progress on the path toward personal maturity and growth, you will benefit from strengthening your relationship with reality. The ability to inquire and ask questions is the most important learning instrument that you have.

Never mistake movement for progress. A rocking horse keeps moving without ever making progress. Sensible people are eager students of truth and rarely assume to have all the answers. The more informed we become in life, the more we appreciate how little we know. A statement that keeps humble men humble and progressive men progressive is, “I don’t know what I don’t yet know.” And it’s this very attitude that keeps people actively learning.

“Observe your thoughts, for they become words. Manage your words, for they will become actions. Consider your actions for they become habits. Manage your biases, for they become your values. Understand your values, for they will determine your future.” – Gandhi.

It’s okay to appreciate what you’ve accomplished in life, but raise the bar a bit higher each time you reach a significant goal. If you have a doubt about your life or a desire for guidance, don’t be afraid to seek assistance from someone with more expertise than you, a valued friend, or someone who has already accomplished something that you deem to be admirable.

One need only look back in history to see how one person’s actions can start a movement that will alter the world. Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi are two historical figures who led movements that altered society on a local or worldwide scale. Nelson Mandela is another historical example of someone who fought for positive cultural change until his end.

The moment man ceases to drive progress in his life (or within his family), to become higher, wiser and better, his life becomes stagnant. Stagnant men know no peace, which leave them empty and with a desire to destroy.

In early 2022, the world watched on as one man gave orders to invade Ukraine, massacre countless numbers of people, and orphan children, destroy people’s homes and take away their livelihood. All from the safety of a hidden underground bunker.

The wise man prioritizes understanding before pursuing ideas, awards, and activities that offer immediate gratification. All humans should question everything at least once in their life, especially strongly held convictions, for the purpose of advancing their personal growth – and, more importantly, guarding against stagnancy or decay.

Never underestimate human potential to advance a greater good or drive unprecedented destruction. Fulfilment can only be found in positive, fruit-producing action. Fruit-producing action is a flowing river, not a stagnant pond.

The moment man ceases to drive positive progress in his life, his life becomes stagnant.

An active door hinge never corrodes. A flowing river never grows stagnant.
