Maturity Comes With Experience, Not With Age.
Your maturity isn’t decided by your age; it’s determined by how responsible you are for your attitude, actions, and outcomes as a result of your decision-making. In the same way, wisdom is not a product of age but of effort, mistakes and life experience.
Maturity is a level of mental development that impacts all areas of a person’s life, from their general conduct to how they interact with others. While older people might be perceived as having greater maturity, psychological maturity isn’t determined by age.
A mature person doesn’t think in absolutes or what’s right and what’s wrong. Mature people are ready to be impartial, even when unjustly provoked.
Wisdom understands that good and evil exist in all people who just portray infinite variations of imperfect. The mark of an immature man is that he’s willing to die for a cause that he believes in (such as Queen and Country, or his politicians, or his peers), while the mark of a sensible man is that he will commit his entire life towards living humbly for one.
Wisdom is not a consequence of age, and maturity isn’t measured by the number of years that you’ve been alive. Most people don’t really grow up at all. They just get older, pay their credit cards, get married, do gardening, and call that maturity. But the truth is that these things don’t equate to maturity; all of this is simply just ageing.
True growth requires something more than simply accumulating years. It necessitates an openness to learning, a willingness to change, to questioning your assumptions and expanding your horizons. Growth requires continual effort to expand your own comfort zone. A mature man knows that change is essential for all human growth.
Maturing involves facing your fears and owning your challenges. It’s a lifelong process that few people ever fully commit to. The truth is that everyone wants to be somebody, but very few want to commit to the process of ongoing growth and improvement.
Many people store the wisdom of their years on their faces, rather than in their minds. You’ll benefit from giving this idea some further thought.
